When you finally get out on your own and rent the first place you've ever had on your own you will need to decorate the place. Some people will leave the apartment looking sterile and place very few things to add to the decoration of the place. Now you should also decide if you have a bigger bed will you still have room for a dresser and even a nightstand. If not you may have to decrease the size of bed you were hoping to get. The kitchen will need a table and chairs for you to be able to sit and eat at. Unless they have a nice place to sit and eat at the counter, in which you could always just buy some nice stools and turn that area into a bit of a breakfast nook. Again you can add some color and comfort by placing a nice area rug in the middle of the floor.
Kitchens will need a few things but really as far as dishes are concerned you can get just a few for now. Don't buy a set of eight if you can't afford it go and buy those specials of one or two plates you can get separately. For this room a table and chairs is needed more than anything else. Without a place to sit and eat you will find that you and your family will sit in front of the TV too much. Provide a way to sit and relax every day with a nice table and chairs.
One of the best areas in your house to bring out most of your personality is the living room. You can get that furniture that you've always wanted or something simple for now. Adding a nice looking area rug can add so much to a room. If you have a smaller room depending on the color you pick it can actually make the room feel bigger. This may also be where you will place a computer or bookcase too. Match the furniture as well as you can to get your own taste in the living room.
Overall you should remember that if you don't have the money to do your whole apartment at one time take it a room at a time. Most likely you should at least get a bed first. But as you can afford it add more to each room.
